All that we send into the lives of others
Comes back into our own."

'Katie's Challenge' brought me back

Some of you may have seen my blog when it first debuted in mid January. It was to have been the story of my creative journey -- my life in fabric. Sadly, I felt that it was not at all creative. I had nothing new or unique to add to the blogging community. End of blog.

That was then, this is now. I still have nothing unique to offer, but I do love sewing and quilting. I draw inspiration from all of your wonderful stories, and one blog in particular has really inspired me. Katie's scrap quilt challenge seemed to be something I could do.

My scrappy string quilt was started on March 18. The top was finished in early April, and in late May I decided to quilt it. The quilting was finished late Monday evening (June 14) and the binding was finished the following day. So, thank you, Katie, for the inspiration.

  1. What a beautiful quilt! I'm so glad you decided to rejoin the blogging world. I don't feel I have all that much to offer either, but I enjoy meeting and chatting with other quilters from all over the world. And they inspire me to get back in my sewing room when I'm a slump, try new things when I'm feeling stuck in a rut and cheer me on when I try things my left brain tells me I can't do. I look forward to seeing other creations - this one is a fantastic re-start!

  2. Welcome Back! What a great quilt! You are on your way!

You may feel you have nothing to contribute, but you do. It's not all about posting photos. It's all about you, and as you said "your life in fabric".

Some ideas that may inspire you to blog:
    - have you visited an interesting quilting related site
    - have you taken a class
    - have you seen a technique that you found interesting
    - quilt shows?
    - something that inspired you? - photo, plant, road, car, people, but not quite ready to make a quilt about it?

Once you get rolling with your blog, you'll be surprised. And you know, if you find yourself in a slump tell us about it. Sometime just "talking" will get us out of it... I know from personal experience!

Cheers! And congrats on completing Katie's challenge. You did an awesome job.

  3. Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I just love the colors.
I too was inspired by Katie's challenge and am glad I took it on. I didn't get quite as far along as you did, getting only the quilt top done. It promptly got folded up and set aside, but you've inspired me to keep working on it and get it finished.
If you aren't feeling very creative, maybe you can inspire us to try something new and issue out the next challenge for us to undertake. Just a thought. I never would have done a scrap quilt if it wasn't for Katie. What are you good at that we should try out?

  4. I'm so glad you are back with us! When I noticed I had a new follower, I was tickled pink to find it to be you! Seems like you've made the transition and are ready to express yourself through quilts and words! You quilt is really lovely. Katie has inspired most of us, as have others, on a regular basis. So what's next for you? I'm looking forward to seeing more from you. ---"Love"

  5. Welcome back to the group! We always love to hear from you! You can blog about quilting or just what you have been doing, we don't care so much what it is about. We all enjoy so many other things, it is interesting to hear from everyone. Your quilt turned out beautifully! I didn't join in the scrap challenge because I have so many other things going and I just finished a big scrap quilt a few months ago. Yours is great!

  6. I think we quiters are very hard on ourselves. In our minds everyone else is more creative than us. I think your quilt is beautiful and I look forward to seeing more of your work. We are a very appreciative audience, and we love to get to know other quilters, with all their different styles and tastes! -Joanne

  7. Sandy, you never know what you have to offer until you put it out there. You may have been doing something the same way for years and suddenly someone will comment about what a fantastic thing you came up with. We all have something to teach and to learn and it is so much fun to do it among friends, even if you never meet them in person. There is a lot of talent in this group. Welcome, welcome, welcome!

  9. Why do you think you are not creative? That is a lovely little quilt- the colors are marvelous. Mostly you just really need to enjoy what you do- there's no point in having a hobby if it's not fun for you! (Then it's just more work.) I hope you decide to keep up with it. :) Theri

  10. I think the finished quilt is great...any quilt that is "done" is a good quilt;) I always say to myself that a closet full of fabric will never keep anyone warm or make them feel loved;) Forget perfection...it's over-rated;)
I don't feel that I "offer" much when it comes to my blogging, but I do it anyway because it's something I enjoy. Just keeping in touch with other quilters is enough;)
    Happy Quilting!!
